"I don't really know how this works."

"I'm sure this isn't your first time."

A blush appeared on the super soldier's cheeks as he towered over you.

"You're joking?"

"Well, the first time with someone that looks about my age."

"Trust me." You pulled him to his feet, making him gasp in surprise. "Calm down, Captain. I don't bite."

Steve was still tense, but allowed you to lead him to the middle of the dance floor. You weren't a big fan of Tony's parties, but it was Christmas Eve and you didn't want the Avengers to think you were soulless so you agreed to go. Now after sitting at the bar chatting it up for the past two hours with the Captain himself, you decided that you needed to stretch your legs. Of course you didn't want to leave Steve because it was the first time the two of you had actually been able to talk one-on-one, so what better way to accomplish both things than to dance.

"Do you really think we have to start in the middle where everyone can see us?" His voice was shaky, and it made you giggle.

"Well, it gives you more reason to not mess up. Now ease up soldier." You commanded. He cocked an eyebrow at you but then shook his head with a small smile.

Taking hold of his right hand, you placed it comfortably on your hip, resting your left hand on his arm. Then you took his left hand in your right hand, and smiled up at him.

"You okay?" He nodded in reply. "Alright, the steps are easy. See watch." You led him through a basic one, two, three.

"Oh okay." Steve misstepped a few times, but he caught on quickly. "Hey, I think I've got this."

The blue in his eyes sparkled under the chandelier as he smiled down at you. This was the moment you had been waiting for since you had met the super solider. If you hadn't made it obvious to him before that you had a crush on him, the way you were smiling like an idiot right now would surely give it away. Breaking eye contact for a few moments, the soldier's gaze traveled around the room for a little while, his face building a look of confusion.

"Is everything alright?" You looked around yourself in case something had gone wrong.
"Ha?" The hand that was laced into Steve's was removed and replaced on your other hip.

"I guess I didn't get it right?" You laughed a bit more than you should have this time. Steve was referring to the way every other man was holding their woman by their hips solely, while he only had one hand on yours.

Putting both your hands on his shoulders, you smirked at him. "Practice makes perfect."

"I'd say. So (name) how long have you worked for S.H.I.E.L.D?" He replied. You could tell Steve was still very tense under your hold, so you assumed him talking was his way of relaxing into the dance.

"Actually, I had only been on the job for three months before you were uncovered."

The comment made him reminiscent and the two of you only kept to dancing. You looked around the room, your eyes stopping on Natasha and Tony. Natasha winked your way and gave you a thumbs up, while Tony was puckering his lips together and hugging himself. Little shit.

"Hey." Steve looked up at the band. "This is my favorite Christmas song." You smiled as the well-known line of 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' was sung.

You allowed yourself to drift away in the moment, lying your head gently against Steve's chest. His heart was beating rapidly underneath your head, but his body loosened up, allowing you to snuggle up to him. The room drifted away as the two of you moved along the floor. His head rested on top of yours as he sang along to the music.

"Sorry to, ouch! Uh, interrupt everyone's jovial time, but guess what!" You and Steve looked up to where Tony was stumbling around the stage, sharing in a sigh of annoyance. "It's time to countdown for Christmas!"

Everyone was cheering and gathered closer to the stage where the playboy had set up a digital timer. Steve grabbed hold of your hand and escorted you to the front. All the other Avengers already there. Natasha pulled Bruce with her to stand beside the two of you.

"So, how's the soldier holding up?" She winked.

You looked up to where he was staring with concern at where Tony had grabbed himself two more champagnes from a server and was downing them.

"Well, he's a good dancer for a grandpa." The two of you laughed, then Bruce pointed up to the stage where the timer was approaching to 10 seconds.

"Alright people! Let's hear it!"

"10! 9! 8!" Steve laced his hand into yours with a smile.

"7! 6! 5!" You lean your head against Steve's shoulder.

"4! 3! 2!" Tony throws something at the Captain.

"1! Merry Christmas." The playboy winked at you, and you turned to Steve to see what the drunken playboy had tossed over.

In his hand was a golden bough with green leaves whose tips turned to yellow. White ripe  berries stemming out. A mistletoe. Steve fiddled with the branch, his face turning pink. You gently pulled it from his fidgety grasp and smiled.

"You're doing it wrong, Cap." You got on your tippy toes and held it above the two of you. "It's like this." You kissed him sweetly on the cheek, moving back down to see his reaction.

His face was redder than before. Smirking up at him, you turned to wish your fellow workers a jolly Christmas. "Wait."

You opened your mouth to ask what was wrong, but stopped when Steve placed his lips gently against yours. At first neither of you moved, but you wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed into him. Getting the idea, Steve wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed you back. Coming up for air, you both laughed at the semi-awkward but very sweet moment.

"Woah. And to think I waited seventy years for one of those."

"Well where is my Christmas kiss?" Tony winked, tipping over.

Rolling his eyes, Steve grabbed hold of Tony and draped his arm over his shoulder. "Better take him to a chair."

"You go ahead." You nodded him off with a smile.

Stumbling with the playboy, Steve turned around again. "Oh yeah, merry Christmas (name)."

You smiled. "Merry Christmas, Steve."
